Organometallic Compounds

Organometallic compounds are defined as containing at least one carbon-metal bond. This bond can be either a direct carbon to metal bond or a complex metal bond. Compounds containing metal to hydrogen bonds containing nonmetallic elements bonded to carbon are sometimes included in organometallic compounds. Some characteristics of these compounds are low melting points, insolubility in water, toxicity, oxidizability, and high reactivity.

  1. Lauren Arline on Iron Giant:
“The concept of this project was to create a secret Iron Giant after their first encounter with the original Iron Giant. I drew a version of the giant and surround with machines or materials needed in iron smelting. I wanted to be at one of the final stages of the smelting process so that way you could see the Iron Giant and recognize it. I gave it dark red and orange harmonies to familiarize it with what is seen in a normal iron-smelting factory. I also wanted it to be like the animated visual version seen in the movie, so I filtered everything to make it look like a cartoon instead of a real life object.”
